Maroon Band - The official name of the Choctaw Central High School marching
Band. Every year, the Maroon Band performs an exciting and progressive show. The band performs at halftime of
football games, and occasionally does pregame festivities as well. The band also competes in several festivals and competitions
a year.
Concert Band - Competitive auditions are held for membership in the band
in January. The concert band has several performances in the spring, including a spring concert and graduation.
The band also travels to Jackson in April of every year to compete in the State Concert Festival.
Middle School Band - The Middle School Band is made up of 7th Graders from
Choctaw Central Middle School and 8th grade beginners from outlying elementary schools. This band is for students to
hone their musical skills and prepare for entrance into the high school band. The band performs with the Maroon Band
in the fall, and has their own concert in the spring.
Pearl River Elementary Band - This group of 6th graders is our beginning
band. The elementary band is for young people interested in learning about music and playing an instrument of their
choosing. The band also teaches youngsters responsibility, respect, and discipline. The 6th graders also perform
with the Maroon Band in the fall, and performs for the Pearl River Elementary Graduation ceremonies.
Conehatta Band Program - This program is for beginners at Conehatta Elementary/Middle School and is under the
direction of Mr. Ben.
Bogue Chitto Band Program - This program is for beginners at Bogue Chitto Elementary/Middle School and is under
the direction of Ms. Trahan.
Tucker Band Program - This program is for beginners at Tucker Elementary/Middle School and is under the direction
of Ms. Trahan.
Winterguard - The Choctaw Central Winter Guard is directed by Mr. Wilson,
and rehearses every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons and occassionally on selected weekends. They compete
as a Scholastic A Winterguard in the Mississippi Indoor Association and Winter Guard International.
Indoor Percussion - NA
Small Ensembles - The band program has several small ensembles that begin
to meet after marching season. These groups include Woodwind Choir, Brass Quintet, and Percussion Ensemble.
Private Lessons - Private lessons are offered by all 4 directors after
school. Lessons for band students are free, while non band students are charged a small fee. Piano lessons are
offered by Mr. Ben, Brass by Mr. Wilson, Woodwind by Ms. Trahan.
